Summary
The Deputy Project Manager supports the Project Manager in the planning, execution, monitoring, and successful delivery of projects while ensuring compliance with contractual, quality, safety, financial, and operational requirements.
The role acts as the Project Manager's delegate when required and contributes to the efficient coordination of project activities, stakeholders, contractors, suppliers, and internal teams to achieve project objectives within scope, budget, and schedule.
What will be your responsibilities?
Project Planning & Execution
- Assist the Project Manager in developing project execution plans, schedules, and resource requirements.
- Coordinate project activities to ensure alignment with approved project milestones.
- Monitor project progress and identify deviations from scope, budget, or schedule.
- Support the implementation of corrective actions to address project risks and delays.
- Ensure project deliverables meet required quality standards and client expectations.
Contract & Commercial Management
- Support the administration of contracts, purchase orders, and subcontract agreements.
- Monitor contractor performance against contractual obligations.
- Review variations, claims, and change requests and provide recommendations to the Project Manager.
- Assist in managing project costs and controlling expenditures against approved budgets.
- Participate in commercial discussions with clients, contractors, and suppliers.
Stakeholder Management
- Coordinate communication between clients, consultants, contractors, suppliers, and internal departments.
- Facilitate project meetings and document key decisions and action items.
- Ensure stakeholders receive timely and accurate project updates.
- Contribute to maintaining positive client relationships throughout the project lifecycle.
Risk Management
- Identify project risks and support the development of mitigation plans.
- Monitor emerging issues and escalate critical concerns to the Project Manager.
- Maintain project risk registers and action trackers.
Health, Safety, Security & Environment (HSSE)
- Promote a strong safety culture across all project activities.
- Ensure compliance with company HSSE policies and applicable regulations.
- Participate in safety reviews, audits, inspections, and incident investigations.
- Support implementation of corrective and preventive actions.
Quality Management
- Ensure project activities comply with established quality management procedures.
- Verify that project documentation is complete, accurate, and properly maintained.
- Support quality audits and compliance reviews.
Reporting & Documentation
- Prepare weekly and monthly project reports.
- Maintain project records, schedules, action logs, and performance indicators.
- Track key project metrics and provide management with accurate performance updates.
- Support preparation of presentations for management and client review meetings.
Team Coordination
- Coordinate multidisciplinary project teams.
- Assist in assigning tasks and monitoring progress.
- Support development of team capability and knowledge sharing.
- Act on behalf of the Project Manager during periods of absence or as delegated.
Who are we looking for?
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Project Management, Business Management, or related field.
- Project Management certification or training (PMP, PRINCE2, CAPM, or equivalent) is desirable.
- Understanding of contract administration and project controls.
- 5-10 years of project management experience in engineering, construction, infrastructure, telecommunications, energy, mining, or related industries.
- Experience supporting complex multidisciplinary projects, contract administration and contractor management.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Project, Primavera P6, Excel, Power BI, and Microsoft 365 applications.
