Summary
The Sustainability Manager is responsible for deploying and overseeing the sustainability strategy at both the global and local levels, ensuring compliance with regulations such as the CSRD. They manage environmental projects, carbon emissions tracking, and sustainability reporting. They also contribute to defining responsible purchasing practices and maintain dialogue with stakeholders.
What will be your responsibilities?
1. Ensuring Continuity of the Sustainable Development Strategy at the Country Level:
- Implement the global sustainability strategy at the country level, adapting initiatives to local contexts and conditions.
- Develop and maintain the dual materiality matrix, ensuring alignment between strategic priorities and stakeholder expectations.
- Prepare detailed reports for management and external stakeholders, monitoring key performance indicators (KPIs) and highlighting progress achieved.
2. Legal Requirements:
- Implement tools and processes to monitor and integrate changes in European regulations, particularly the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD).
- Conduct a comprehensive audit of the company's sustainability practices and reporting mechanisms to identify gaps with CSRD requirements.
3. Ensuring Continuity of BIA's Carbon Strategy:
- Coordinate the carbon footprint process by overseeing subsidiary-level efforts to align with corporate objectives.
- Ensure compliance and quality by adopting recognized standards (e.g., Greenhouse Gas Protocol) and maintaining the accuracy of reports.
- Monitor decarbonization initiatives to confirm the effective implementation of actions aimed at reducing emissions.
- Develop and publish carbon footprint analyses for inclusion in sustainability and CSR reports, in line with local and international requirements.
- Establish and track KPIs for each country to ensure timely and accurate data collection.
4. Stakeholder Engagement:
- Develop surveys to analyze the influence and impact of each stakeholder on the organization’s sustainability objectives.
- Establish dialogue channels to regularly gather actionable feedback from stakeholders.
- Identify and prioritize opportunities to reduce emissions across the value chain.
5. Environmental Projects:
- Lead the implementation and monitoring of environmental projects focused on optimizing water and energy management and reducing waste to support the company’s sustainability objectives.
- Define country-specific objectives and implement monitoring tools to assess project effectiveness and measure environmental impact using key performance indicators (KPIs).
- Provide regular reports on project progress, achieved results, and any deviations from established targets.
6. Responsible Purchasing:
Collaborate with the supply chain team to :
- Define and implement a responsible purchasing strategy.
- Establish and enforce a responsible purchasing policy across all procurement activities.
- Implement a supplier evaluation process to assess sustainability performance.
- Work closely with purchasing teams to integrate sustainability clauses into calls for tender and contracts.
7. Communication and Reporting:
- Prepare detailed reports for internal and external stakeholders using recognized frameworks such as the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) and the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP).
- Update the company's sustainability report annually.
- Draft internal and external communications on sustainability developments and initiatives.
- Provide operational support to various sustainable development committees, including planning, document preparation, and recording meeting minutes. Monitor the implementation and progress of projects.
8. Provide guidance, monitor performance, and oversee the activities of the sustainability specialist.
Who are we looking for?
Education & Qualification
- University degree (Master’s degree or higher) in engineering, environmental engineering studies or international development studies.
- Knowledge of methods for calculating carbon footprints and environmental reporting tools.
- Knowledge of international sustainable development standards (ISO 14001, GRI, etc.) and local environment legislation.
Experience:
- Over 8 years of relevant experience in sustainability-related matters and impact management, or environmental and social assessments related to the private sector business activities.
- Excellent communication and project management skills.
- Ability to work in a multicultural environment and manage remote teams.
- Ability to analyze complex data and derive strategic recommendations.
- Ability to analyze complex data and draw conclusions.
- Fluent in French/English. Dutch is an asset.
